Heading South in Argentina

Since our last blog we have done and seen alot and been to a variety of places.

Our two day trip to the Tigre Delta was really nice - it´s a very relaxed holiday kind of place. The accommodation that we had managed to book (whilst firemen were stomping around the hotel...) turned out to be on one of the islands in the Delta so we had to take one of the river bus boats to get there. It was owned by a Dutch man and his wife who were in the middle of cleaning out their out-house when we got there. Much to Kathryn´s delight (!) it seemed that everyone in Tigre had at least 2 dogs! The guest house owners had 4, one which we nick-named "bigfoot" for obvious reasons. Maybe our rabies jabs were a sound investment after all!

Our first evening in our accommodation, we hired a 2 man kayak from the owner and explored a couple of the waterways. Our hosts then cooked us dinner although didn´t hang around to eat with us which was a shame. The second day we got the boat back to Tigre  first thing in the morning and spent the day seeing the sights which included an art museum (the building was amazing and had a terrace overlooking the river), a Naval museum, the fruit port (a fruit and craft market - more crafts than fruit) and the Matte museum, where we had our first taste of Matte, Argentina´s staple drink - a very bitter tea like drink, brewed in a gourd and drunk through a straw. Every evening when people finish work or school they head outdoors and drink Matte in the public spaces about town.

When we got back to Buenos Aires on the Friday we had a Tango lesson (good fun but quite slow) before meeting up with Margot (who we met on the Sugar Loaf in Rio) and a couple of her friends. The next morning we went to La Boca to see the famous multi-coloured streets before catching our coach in the afternoon for the 18 hour journey to Puerto Madryn.

We actually managed to get some sleep on the bus so didn´t feel completely wiped out when we arrived and, after checking into our hostel (probably the nicest so far), we set out on a walk along the beach in an attempt to find some wildlife. So far we have only seen the single seal but some amazing views and a couple of ship wrecks on the beach. Tomorrow we are off on a road trip to the Peninsular Valdes where the real wild life spotting will begin! We´ve even been warned of vipers and black widow spiders by our fellow hostellers...... we´ll give you an update when we get back!

Love to all.
